DSC 7208MEFMI has established a Business Development Unit (BDU) within the Secretariat to spearhead the design and implementation of income generating capacity building activities. The major mandate of the BDU is to build self-sustaining revenue streams to supplement member states  and financial partners contributions. The BDU will focus on activities that leverage the existing core competencies of the Institute, which will include fee-based customised training to both client and non-client institutions on macroeconomic management, financial sector management and public debt management.

The BDU will be run by Mr. Tafadzwa Choto, who joined the Institute on 1 February 2017 as the Business Development Manager. Mr Choto brings to MEFMI more than 13 years of managerial experience spanning sales and marketing, operations, organisational development, financial and general management. Prior to his appointment at MEFMI, Mr Choto worked for a consultancy firm where he managed private, public and NGO client assignments, nurtured client relationships and also developed new business.  He has experience in preparing and conducting training over a broad range of personal and organisational development and customer service programs.  In addition he has experience in facilitating strategic planning projects for the private, public and NGO sectors.  Mr. Choto also has experience in assessing organisational and structural capacity gaps and recommending appropriate interventions Before going into consultancy, he worked in various executive roles in the motor industry where his responsibilities included market and product development.  Mr Choto has also served on the councils of industry bodies including the Motor Industry and the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries.  He is a past Co-Chair of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio Economic Transformation (ZIMASSET) Infrastructure and Utilities Cluster and served on the ZIMASSET Joint Review Committee.

Mr Choto is a holder of a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Zimbabwe.
