Sehliselo MpofuDr Sehliselo Mpofu is currently the MEFMI Director of the Macroeconomic Management Programme. She joined the Institute in March 2014.


Dr Mpofu holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Economics (by coursework and thesis) from the School of Economics at the University of the Witswatersrand in South Africa, in collaboration with the University of Cape Town in South Africa and the African Economic Research Consortium  (AERC) in Kenya. She also holds Masters’ and Bachelors’ degrees in Economics, both from the University of Zimbabwe. She trained in Gender-Responsive Economic Policy Management, an initiative of the United Nations Development Programme.


Before joining MEFMI, she worked for several economic research, economic policy making and capacity building institutions in Zimbabwe. These include an economic think-tank, the Zimbabwe Economic Policy Analysis and Research Unit (ZEPARU), where she was the  Principal Research Fellow, managing research and capacity building activities in Macroeconomics. At the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), she rose to the level of Deputy Division Chief (Deputy Director), working in the Economic Research Division, and in the Financial Markets Division. At the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), she taught Macroeconomics and Monetary Economics. While working for the Government of Zimbabwe, her main duties involved planning, budgeting and coordination.


She also served as an examiner for the Institute of Bankers of Zimbabwe for over ten years since 1996. Her research work over the years has focused mainly on macroeconomic and financial sector management issues.
