regional intergration

gdp2017

Today 8 March is International Women’s Day, an important day on the MEFMI region calendar and in deed on the UN calendar. We join the world in celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

At MEFMI we realise that progress is slow in many of our countries and action is needed to accelerate gender parity. In previous years, leaders across the world pledged to take action as champions of gender parity. We too at MEFMI seek to declare our commitment to support women's advancement as we boldly say equality is a critical ingredient in the economic development of our region.

We recognise the critical role that women play in economic development and we are cognisant of the fact that there is still more that needs to be done to bridge the gaps between females and males. MEFMI in support of the 2017 International Women’s Day theme #BeBoldForChange, commits to continue offering capacity development initiatives that are in sync with the UN SDG 5. We will also continue to encourage member countries to level their employment patterns and to deliberately ensure representation at MEFMI events is gender balanced.

We take this opportunity to wish all women in the MEFMI region and throughout the world happy and peaceful celebrations of this important day.
