MEFMI, in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is conducting a 5-day regional workshop on compilation of Balance of Payments Statistics in Manzini, Swaziland. The course, which started on 28th March 2016, is being attended by 32 participants (of who 13 are female) from Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The course was officially opened by Honourable Majozi Sithole, Governor Central Bank of Swaziland.
This course follows the E-learning course on Balance of Payments and International Investment Position (BOP/IIP) that MEFMI offered during the fourth quarter of 2015, using the UNITAR Moodle platform. While the E-learning course focused on conceptual aspects of the BPM6 methodological framework, this residential course is expected to expose the participants to the practical aspects of compilation and dissemination, drawing from the IMF Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Compilation Guide, 2014. The course facilitators are Mr. Joji Ishikawa and Mr. Tatsuhiko Hagitani, from the IMF Statistics Department.
MEFMI Secretariat is being represented by Dr. Sehliselo Mpofu, Director Macroeconomic Management Programme and Ms. Vivian Namugambe, Programme Manager responsible for the area of focus of external sector statistics.
