EVENT: MEFMI COMBINED FORUM FOR MINISTERS OF FINANCE AND OF PLANNING, SECRETARIES TO TREASURY / PERMANENT

The MEFMI Combined Forum for 2016 will be held on Tuesday 4 October 2016 in Washington DC. The event will be attended by Ministers of Finance and of Planning, Secretaries to Treasury / Permanent Secretaries of Finance and of Planning as well as Central Bank Governors from MEFMI member states (Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe). The 2016 theme is Accelerating Economic Growth in the MEFMI Region – the drivers, prospects and policy implications.
The event is being hosted with financial support from General Electric (GE), a company that provides a broad array of products and services in power generation as energy delivery as well as investment solutions.
The main discussion topics under this theme are:
• Financing African Instructure: needs and solutions. The topic will be presented by Dr. Albert Zeufuck who is a World Bank Chief Economist for Africa.
• Innovation in Guarantee Products and Fiscal Aspects which will be presented by the Executive Managing Director of the Institute of International Fincna Mr Hung Tran.
• A panel discussion on Key Fundamental Issues Pertaining to Public Private Partnerships will be led by Mr Clive Haaris who is the Practice Manager for Public Private Partnerships at the World Bank.
The Combined Forum will be officially opened by Honourable Patrick Chinamasa, who is the Zimbabwe Minister of Finance and Economic Development.
The key note address will be made by one of the world’s highly regarded Economists, Professor Paul Collier. He is a Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government and a Professorial Fellow of St Antony’s College, Oxford. He is currently a Professeur invité at Sciences Po and a Director of the International Growth Centre.
The Combined Forum is a platform used by MEFMI to bring together policy makers inorder to discuss and strategise on emerging issues. Recommendations from previous Combined Forums have translated into the continued development of good policies that drive economic growth and also play a critical role in reducing the levels of poverty in the MEFMI region.
