MEFMI capacitates officials on negotiation skills and techniques

As part of its efforts to build requisite skills aimed at enhancing organisational success, the MEFMI Business Development Unit (BDU) conducted a virtual workshop on Negotiation Skills and Techniques. The workshop was conducted virtually from 24 to 28 July 2023.

Roger Fisher (1991) defines negotiations as a dialogue between two or more people or parties intended to reach a beneficial outcome over one or more issues where a conflict exists for at least one of these issues. Thus, negotiation is a process of combining divergent positions into a joint agreement under a decision rule of unanimity. It is aimed at resolving points of difference, gaining an advantage for an individual or collective or crafting outcomes to satisfy various interests. The ability to negotiate effectively is one of the most desirable and highly coveted skills at the individual level and in business. People in every profession often depend on negotiation to resolve problems as well as to get things done. To this end, organisations need to adequately capacitate their teams and ensure that they have the necessary competencies for effective negotiation, which is the background against which this workshop was organised.,

The course enhanced the knowledge of participants on key aspects of effective negotiation. The participants were drawn from four (4) MEFMI member countries namely, Eswatini, Mozambique, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
