MEFMI conducted a virtual regional workshop on Innovative Financing from 27 to 31 July 2026, bringing together officials from across its member countries to examine opportunities and challenges in the evolving development finance landscape.
The programme aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of emerging financing options and associated costs and risks. Particular attention was given to sustainability and climate-related financial instruments, including green bonds, social bonds and sustainability-linked bonds, as well as the systems, policies and regulatory frameworks required to access these instruments effectively.
A total of 73 officials from 12 MEFMI member countries attended the workshop. Participants were drawn from Ministries of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Central Banks, National Treasuries and Revenue Authorities.
The programme benefited from expertise from government institutions, the World Bank, the International Capital Markets Association and independent specialists. The workshop combined expert-led presentations, practical examples, case studies, country experience sharing and facilitated discussions.
The programme strengthened participants’ understanding of the practical considerations involved in assessing, designing and implementing innovative financing solutions in support of national sustainable development objectives.
