MEFMI, in collaboration with the Toronto Centre, conducted a Virtual Regional Workshop on Bank Resolution and Crisis Management from 22 to 25 June 2026.
The workshop was designed to strengthen the capacity of bank supervisors and deposit insurers to manage bank distress, enhance crisis preparedness and implement effective resolution strategies. It brought together officials responsible for bank supervision and deposit insurance from MEFMI member countries.
The programme focused on bank resolution frameworks, crisis management arrangements, recovery and resolution planning and lessons from recent episodes of bank distress. Participants also examined the Financial Stability Board’s Key Attributes of Effective Resolution Regimes and explored approaches to strengthening institutional readiness and inter-agency coordination.
The workshop was officially opened by Ms Florette Nakusera, Director, Financial Sector Management Programme at MEFMI, and Ms Demet Canakci, Program Director at the Toronto Centre.
A total of 31 officials from Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Namibia participated in the workshop.
Through the programme, participants strengthened their understanding of the practical and institutional requirements for effective crisis management and bank resolution. The initiative forms part of MEFMI’s continued support to member institutions in strengthening financial sector supervision, institutional resilience and financial stability.
