Role of Central Banks in Managing a Country’s Natural Resource Revenues

Presentation by Dr. Ekaterina Gratcheva, Lead Financial Officer, Reserves Advisory and Management Program

At the MEFMI Region Central Bank Governors’ Forum

Institutional set-up of SWF vary from country to country, inter alia, due to political and institutional set-up differences. In some countries, central banks are entrusted as the asset management organisation managing the sovereign assets on behalf of the asset owner, usually the ministry of finance; while in others, a single purpose institution is set up to manage SWF assets. There are also examples when both the central bank and an autonomous institution are managing different parts of the sovereign assets. However, even with different institutional models due to varied country set-ups, there are some common principles that must be considered essential to any well governed SWF.  Click here for the full presentation
