The MEFMI Executive Director, Michael Atingi-Ego, has been appointed the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda. Michael, a seasoned economic policy official who has served in several capacities at various institutions joined MEFMI in September 2018.
During his tenure at MEFMI, he spear-headed several initiatives, that saw the Institute refocusing its product offering to ensure relevance of capacity building interventions. Other initiatives were the introduction of flexible working to boost staff productivity and work-life balance; which together with the enhanced e-learning for dynamic environment that he so passionately oversaw ensured that MEFMI sustained uninterrupted service delivery to its client institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic related lockdown and induced social distancing. Michael also led the efforts to integrate the theory of change into the monitoring and evaluation framework that increased the effectiveness of the product offering of MEFMI. Improved collaboration with other service providers in macroeconomic and financial sector management was enhanced under his leadership. Specifically, Michael played a critical role in enhancing synergies with East and South AFRITACS in the delivery of capacity building initiatives to the common membership. In addition, he oversaw the revamping of the Business Development Unit to ensure that it is a viable source of revenue to supplement the financial contributions from member countries and income from cooperating partners. Enhancement of technical assistance services in Portuguese to the Lusophone member countries was progressed. Michael also oversaw the review of a significant number of key operational manuals, procedures and guidelines for consistency with international best practices which bodes well with the MEFMI international image.
