Following the launch of a new debt recording and management system known as Commonwealth Meridian in 2018, several countries which used the Commonwealth Debt Recording and Management System (CS-DRMS) have migrated or are in the process of migrating to the new system. The CS-Meridian, which is based on the latest technology, has enhanced functionalities which provide for better debt data management as compared to CS-DRMS.
As part of the effort to support Namibia migrate to CS-Meridian, a joint MEFMI/COMSEC Mission was in Windhoek, Namibia from 20 to 24 June 2022. The mission aimed to assess the readiness of Namibia to migrate its public debt database to CS-Meridian, and review the status of the existing debt database, the adequacy of the human resources and IT infrastructure to support the CS-Meridian.
The main output of the mission was a detailed report outlining the findings of the mission, including an Implementation Schedule for migration to CS-Meridian. In addition, the mission raised awareness on the key functionalities of CS-Meridian among country officials.
The mission team comprised Ms. Joanne Allin (Team leader) and Mr Brooks Shitaa of the Commonwealth Secretariat and Mr. Lekinyi Mollel who was representing the MEFMI Secretariat. The mission met several officials of the Ministry of Finance and Bank of Namibia to discuss several migration related issues.
