As part of efforts to support and ensure the availability of comprehensive macroeconomic statistics in the region, MEFMI has supported the implementation of the latest versions of debt management systems in use to aid the maintenance of up-to-date public debt databases across its client institutions. The systems are continuously upgraded by the developers to enhance debt database management in user countries by taking advantage of technological innovations and responding to the dynamic financing landscape. As a result, there is a need for consistent training of users of the systems to enable the member countries to fully benefit from the upgrades.
Against this background, MEFMI and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD) Debt Management and Financial Analysis System (DMFAS) Programme jointly conducted a regional workshop virtually from 26 to 30 September 2022. The regional workshop enhanced knowledge and raised awareness of country officials on the latest updates to the debt management system and provided refresher training on the various modules and functionalities of the DMFAS 6. In addition, it also increased the knowledge of IT debt database administrators (DBAs), to provide backend support to the system.
A total of 54 officials from the ministries of finance and central banks of four (4) out of five (5) MEFMI DMFAS user countries, namely, Angola, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe participated in the workshop. Of these, 41 were DFMAS users whilst 13 were DBAs. The workshop was facilitated by three resource persons from UNCTAD namely Ms. Roula Katergi and Mr. Khaled Ibrahim, who both focused on the user-functionalities, as well as Mr. Gavin Costello, who was in charge of the IT-related training.
