MEFMI Conducts Consultative Mission in Lesotho

MEFMI’s core mission is to enhance human and institutional capacity in macroeconomic and financial management within its client institutions across MEFMI member countries. To ensure that MEFMI’s capacity-building efforts align with the needs of its clients, the Institute actively monitors their participation in capacity development activities and engages with them regularly to understand their capacity requirements and challenges. In line with this approach, a mission to Lesotho was carried out to assess the capacity needs and challenges of client institutions in the country, with the aim of serving the client institutions in member countries better.

Led by MEFMI’s Executive Director, Dr. Louis Kasekende, and accompanied by Programme Manager Dr. Casius Chuma, the mission sought to grasp the specific capacity needs and challenges faced by client institutions and non-traditional clients in Lesotho to enhance service delivery. The mission’s objectives included consulting with MEFMI client institutions to address their unique capacity needs and promoting capacity development activities offered by the Business Development Unit (BDU) to commercial banks in Lesotho.

The mission yielded outcomes that will guide the development of new strategies and the review of existing interventions to enhance the quality, content, and delivery of MEFMI’s capacity-building activities for client institutions in member countries. During the visit, the MEFMI delegation held  consultations with the Central Bank of Lesotho as well as  commercial banks operating in the country, with 12 officials (7 males and 5 females) and 3 officials (all females) representing them, respectively. MEFMI  gleaned valuable insights and recommendations from this mission to further enhance the quality and scope of its capacity-building activities for client institutions across member countries.
