Seminar for Heads of Sovereign Asset Management

BACKGROUND
The global investment environment has been turbulent in the post COVID-19 recovery period, given the
high inflation, market volatility and war in Europe, among others. The outlook for the global economy
remains uncertain amid the central banks’ tightening cycle and a looming recession in some markets.
Sovereign asset managers are concerned about the impact of these risks on the objectives of sovereign
reserves: capital preservation, liquidity and returns. At the same time, policymakers continue to grapple with
policy challenges in a broader context that includes emerging themes such as climate change, sustainable
investing, and rapid changes in technology. The need to mitigate the risks posed by the challenges in the
global markets warrants a multi-pronged strategy, which includes diversifying into new asset classes and
keeping abreast and adopting international best practices by sovereign asset managers.
The seminar is expected to provide insights on the global financial market investment environment, the
resulting challenges faced by policy makers such as geopolitical risk, and the implications on the Strategic
Asset Allocation (SAA) based on the global economic outlook. Other topics may include current trends
in reserves management with regards to ESG framework, sustainable investing and financial technologies
and diversification into new/emerging asset classes. The seminar also provides a platform for networking,
exchanging of ideas and solutions amongst delegates and industry experts.
