MEFMI Conducts Training on Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation  

Over the years monitoring and evaluation (M&E) has proven to be a critical undertaking to every organisation that is results-oriented, regardless of the nature of its business and mandate. Stakeholders such as the general public, shareholders, and donors are increasingly demanding to see tangible results from the programmes or activities that are funded through taxes, private capital contributions or donor resources. The main interest in this regard is to see long-term outcomes and impacts and not just outputs as has been the case over the years.  Therefore, the importance of M&E for any development intervention cannot be overemphasized. M&E provides a framework for determining organisational performance by way of tracking progress in the implementation of programme and project activities as well as assessing the extent of achievement of the results thereof.

In this regard, it is critical that personnel involved in programme planning and implementation in an organisation acquire the requisite knowledge in monitoring and evaluation to enable them to monitor, evaluate, and utilise the outcomes for decision making. Against this backdrop, the MEFMI Business Development Unit conducted a workshop on Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation from 19 to 23 September 2022. The workshop aimed to address the capacity gaps that exist in many organisations in the area of M&E by imparting the participants with knowledge on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) focusing on the fundamentals of M&E; the results chain; the theory of change; and developing a framework for M&E.

The workshop was attended by 12 participants (four males and eight females) at officer, manager, and director levels from Central Banks, the UN and the private sector from Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The training workshop enhanced the participants’ knowledge of Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation. With the knowledge acquired in Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation, the participants are expected to become agents of change in their various organisations by supporting their respective organisations to develop and implement a framework for tracking programme implementation and the attainment of the desired results.

The training workshop was facilitated by Ms. Dena Lomofsky, a Senior Consultant from Southern Hemisphere assisted by Ms. Miriam Chikwanda, a Junior Consultant from the same organisation.
