MEFMI Collaborates with Ninety-One to Host Seminar for Heads of Reserves Management

As part of its efforts to support sovereign reserves managers to navigate the volatile, uncertain, and complex environment characterised by, among others, high inflation, MEFMI hosted a virtual seminar for Heads of Reserves Management on 1 and 2 December 2022. The seminar is an annual event to discuss pertinent and emerging issues affecting sovereign reserves management.

The objective of the seminar was to provide a platform for delegates to discuss the inflation dynamics playing out in global markets and their impact on sovereign reserves portfolios. The seminar focused on global inflation dynamics in 2022 and alternative reserves management strategies appropriate in the current environment.

A total of 34 officials from 12 MEFMI member countries namely Botswana, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe attended the workshop. Female delegates accounted for 50% of the participants. It is expected that officials will use the insights gained from the seminar to tailor their strategies for managing official foreign exchange reserves to the existing environment.
