MEFMI trains Zimbabwean officials on the use of DMFAS

MEFMI conducted an in-country training workshop for the newly recruited Zimbabwe Public Debt Management Office (ZPDMO) officials on the Debt Management and Financial Analysis System (DMFAS). The workshop was held from 8 to 19 May 2023 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The objective of the workshop was to enhance the capacity of ZPDMO officials on the use of DMFAS to record, monitor and report public and publicly guaranteed debt, and to support the maintenance of a comprehensive debt database.

Comprehensive, consistent and up-to-date debt statistics are an integral part of effective public debt management. Debt statistics aid in enhancing transparency and credibility, as well as debt policy formulation and analysis. This is why MEFMI continues to prioritise support in the maintenance of debt database to its member countries. In that respect, MEFMI continues to provide training to officials in the member countries in the use of the computer-based debt management systems and supports debt data validation exercises.

The workshop included presentations as well as hands-on exercises. The presentation discussed the theoretical aspects of DMFAS including its various modules and functionalities. There were also practical hands-on sessions which involved participants undertaking specific tasks in DMFAS.

A total of 16 officials from the Front, Middle and Back Office of the ZPDMO were trained. The post workshop evaluation by the participants showed a successful workshop with the facilitation, arrangements and administration of workshops all rated very highly. The resource persons also rated the participation and responsiveness of the participants highly and commendable.

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Mubarak Nasamba, an Acting Commissioner at the Ministry of Finance in Uganda; Mr. Christian Schoennagel, a DMFAS Consultant and Ms. Josephine Tito, from the MEFMI Secretariat.
