MEFMI conducts a Virtual In-Country Workshop on Risk Management for the Bank of Botswana

MEFMI conducted a virtual workshop to train the Senior Leadership Forum (SLF) and Risk Management Committee (RMC) of the Bank of Botswana. The workshop involved training of Bank officials through presentations by the resource persons as well as sharing of experiences regarding enterprise-wide risk management. The workshop was held on 28 September 2023.

The objectives of the mission were to empower the RMC /SLF with background knowledge on risk to enable the members execute their responsibilities, train officials on enterprise risk management principles, the role of risk appetite and tolerances in risk management, relationship of RMC with risk champions, the role of internal audit in risk management and integrating the risk function into strategic planning, budgeting process among others and to equip participants with the knowledge on international best practice standards and corporate governance codes to ensure effective risk management practices, processes, and procedures.

A total of 23 officials attended the workshop. The officials included the chief operating officer, and Heads of Departments of supervision, internal audit, human capital, communications, strategic planning and risk management, prudential supervision, statistics, corporate management services, research and financial stability, banking, currency settlement, information and technology, business conduct and regulatory compliance, information risk officer among others. In terms of gender distribution, 10 participants (43%) were female.
