MEFMI E-learning course on Sustainable Development Financing
Background
Over the last decade, the development financing landscape facing developing countries, including those in the MEFMI region, has evolved considerably. New borrowing opportunities have emerged with countries accessing the international capital markets, and reliance on the domestic financial markets has also increased in some countries. In addition, there is greater participation of non-Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) bilateral countries on the lending landscape. The role of public-private partnerships in financing infrastructure projects has become more pronounced. More recently, the role of thematic bonds in financing sustainable development projects has emerged. The diversity of funding options has widened the scope for governments to tap into an array of new alternative financing options in place of the declining concessional financing from traditional creditors. This, however, has increased the complexity of the international development financing landscape, which warrants a better understanding of how developing countries can better exploit the funding opportunities while managing the associated costs and risks more effectively.
In this regard, MEFMI will offer an online course on Sustainable Development Financing Options to enhance knowledge and understanding of existing and emerging options for financing development, the associated costs and risks as well as opportunities, challenges, and complexities of mobilizing these resources.
