MEFMI Regional Seminar on Green Financing
Background
The subject of climate change has become very topical amongst policymakers as it is increasingly becoming a key source of risks to economies across the globe. To this end, countries, including MEFMI member countries, have made ambitious commitments to climate investments to mitigate the related risks. These commitments require substantial amounts of public financing. It is critical to ensure that governments access the required financing at the best terms, with greater emphasis on ensuring debt sustainability. Despite the urgent need to implement the mitigation interventions, notable gaps have been identified with regards to knowledge of the climate change and finance architecture as this is an emerging area.
As part of efforts to ensure that member countries are abreast with climate finance issues, MEFMI will conduct a Seminar focusing on Green Financing to raise awareness on the intricacies of this emerging funding source and how countries can effectively utilize it. Green financing offers sovereign governments an opportunity to diversify their funding sources and support the attainment of climate change-related sustainable development goals.
