Regional Webinar on IADI Investment Principles
Background
The role of deposit insurance schemes (DIS) to protect depositors in case of bank failures is underpinned by establishing sound investment policies and systems of the deposit insurance funds. The International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems Core Principle 9 underscores the need for a deposit insurer to have appropriate funding mechanisms, enabling it to execute its mandate effectively. Taking the mandate into account, the deposit insurer must have readily available funds and all funding mechanisms necessary to ensure prompt reimbursement of depositors’ claims. Additionally, sound investment and risk management policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems ensure prudent management and stable growth of deposit insurance funds (DIF). In line with supporting deposit insurance schemes of the member countries, MEFMI will hold a webinar for deposit insurers to provide guidance in designing and implementing investment and risk management policies for the deposit insurance to support adherence with IADI Core Principle 9. The webinar will also explore current developments and their impact on investment frameworks for deposit insurance schemes.
