Workshop on Crisis Preparedness
Background
Financial crisis preparedness and bank resolution are critical topics within the MEFMI region. When a bank faces financial difficulties, it is essential for supervisors to intervene early and coordinate their responses effectively. This helps to maintain financial stability and reduce the need for the use of public funds to bail out distressed banks.
This workshop offers a comprehensive overview of conceptual and operational issues related to financial crisis preparedness and management. It is designed to assist authorities in preparing for financial crises that impact systemically important banks.
Objectives
The objective of the workshop is to help authorities within the region to enhance their crisis preparedness and management. At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:
- Explain supervisory approaches of dealing with weak banks.
- Identify good practices of crisis preparedness.
- Explain key features of effective crisis management and effective resolution regimes.
- Understand the key principles of crisis simulation exercise design.
Course Content
The workshop covers the following topics, among others:
- Identification and supervision of weak banks.
- Building effective crisis management frameworks and resolution regimes (as guided by the Financial Stability Board’s Key Attributes).
- Crisis containment.
- Designing Crisis Simulation Exercises.
Target Group
This workshop targets middle-level and senior officials from deposit insurance schemes, resolution authorities and supervisory authorities, central banks, and Ministries of Finance and/or Economic Planning of MEFMI member countries.
